Ballinger Equine Managing Director Andrew Hillier has presented the highly coveted European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) 2024 annual European Communications Excellence Award to CERN’s Education, Communications and Outreach Group, at the EACD Annual Summit in Brussels.

Ballinger Equine represented in Brussels at EACD annual summit

Andrew represented Ballinger Equine at the 2024 EACD Annual Summit in Brussels. Andrew is also a Board Member of the EACD and a jury panel member for the annual award. The EACD acknowledged CERN’s communication in particular for its commitment to transparency, knowledge sharing and transnational communications.

Communications excellence

The award was presented to Ana Godinho, CERN’s Head of the Education, Communication and Outreach Group at a special ceremony at the Summit. Ana said:

I am proud to accept this very special award which I know will mean so much to the CERN Communications community. I represent all my colleagues, including the many CERN physicists and engineers we work with every day. Recognition of communication what the organisation achieves at the cutting edge of science is in itself rewarding, and particularly so for my team when it comes from peers in an organisation as respected as the EACD.

The criteria for the annual EACD award are:

  • A communications team that demonstrates excellence and best practice in communications.
  • That breaks barriers and builds bridges through effective communications, contributing to broader society.
  • Is pan-European with an international outlook.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the EACD’s principles and values.

Ballinger Equine championing excellence

Ballinger Equine is a proudly independent practice and eschews any ties to corporate veterinary organisations. Recognised and respected for its clinical excellence and commitment to the highest levels of client service, the practice leadership celebrates excellence not just in its own practice, but across Europe. As Ballinger Equine’s founder and Managing Director, Andrew is responsible for managing all non-clinical aspects of the practice and for running the business. A Board Member of the European Association of Communication Directors, Andrew is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Journalists and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations where he was Greater London Chairman for two consecutive terms and a CIPR National Council Member for four years.

In addition to presenting the EACD European Communications Excellence Award, Andrew is a member of the jury panel for the Lithuanian PR Impact Awards 2024.

2024 is CERN’s 70th anniversary year

The first resolution concerning the establishment of a European Council for Nuclear Research (in French Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) was adopted at an intergovernmental meeting of UNESCO in Paris in December 1951. Two months later, an agreement was signed establishing the provisional Council – the acronym CERN was born. On 29 September 1954, the European Organization for Nuclear Research officially came into being.

Today, our understanding of matter goes much deeper than the nucleus, and CERN’s main area of research is particle physics. Because of this, the laboratory operated by CERN is often referred to as the European Laboratory for Particle Physics.
